Foundayo (Orforglipron): What This New Weight Loss Pill Actually Does
Foundayo is a new once-daily GLP-1 tablet for weight loss, authorised in the UK in August 2026. Here's how it works, its dosing and costs.

Key Takeaways
Foundayo (orforglipron) is a new once-daily weight loss tablet, MHRA-authorised in August 2026. Trials showed average weight loss of 12.4% over 72 weeks, with fewer food and water restrictions than the Wegovy tablet.
Foundayo is the brand name for orforglipron, a new once-daily weight loss tablet that got the green light from the MHRA in August 2026. It works in a similar way to injectable treatments like Wegovy and Mounjaro, but comes as a pill instead of a pen, and it doesn't have the strict food and water rules that the Wegovy tablet needs.
What Foundayo actually is#
Orforglipron belongs to the GLP-1 receptor agonist family, the same broad group as semaglutide (Wegovy) and tirzepatide (Mounjaro). GLP-1 is a hormone your gut releases naturally after eating. It slows digestion, reduces appetite, and helps you feel fuller for longer.
What makes orforglipron different is its chemistry. It's a small-molecule, non-peptide GLP-1 agonist, which is a technical way of saying it can be made into an ordinary tablet without needing the special coating tricks that oral semaglutide relies on. In practice, that means you can take Foundayo at any time of day, with or without food, and without waiting an hour before eating or drinking. You still shouldn't crush, split or chew the tablet, as the coating needs to stay intact for it to absorb properly.
Foundayo is authorised for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI of 27 to 30 with a weight-related condition such as high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes. It's also licensed for adults with type 2 diabetes that isn't well controlled.

How the dosing schedule works#
Treatment starts low and builds up gradually, which helps your gut adjust and reduces nausea. A typical schedule looks like this:
- 0.8mg once daily, for at least 30 days
- 2.5mg once daily, for at least 30 days
- 5.5mg once daily, for at least 30 days
- 9mg, then 14.5mg, then up to a maximum of 17.2mg, each held for at least 30 days
Not everyone needs to reach the top dose. Your prescriber will decide how far to titrate based on how you respond and how well you tolerate side effects. If you miss a dose, don't double up. Follow the guidance in your patient leaflet, or check with your prescriber if you've missed several doses in a row.
Side effects to expect#
Like other GLP-1 medicines, the most common Foundayo side effects affect the gut: nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, constipation and reduced appetite. These tend to be worst in the first few weeks after a dose increase and often settle down over time.
Small, simple changes help many people manage this: smaller meals, eating slowly, and staying well hydrated, especially if you're being sick or have diarrhoea. If you're eating a lot less than usual, try to prioritise protein and fibre so you don't miss out on key nutrients.
Serious side effects are uncommon but worth knowing about. Acute pancreatitis, causing severe, constant pain in the stomach and back, needs urgent medical attention. Other rare but serious effects reported with this class of medicine include bowel obstruction, severe constipation, allergic reactions, kidney problems linked to dehydration, and sudden vision changes. As a newly authorised medicine, Foundayo carries the black triangle symbol, meaning the MHRA is monitoring it closely and wants any suspected side effects reported through the Yellow Card scheme.
Foundayo isn't suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and it can interact with medicines that affect the CYP3A4 liver enzyme, including certain antibiotics, antifungals and anticonvulsants, plus supplements like St John's Wort. A full medical history is essential before starting, which is why a proper clinical assessment always comes first.

How much weight can you expect to lose#
In the ATTAIN-1 trial, adults with obesity (without diabetes) lost an average of 12.4% of their body weight after 72 weeks on the highest dose, compared with under 1% on placebo. There's no direct head-to-head trial against oral semaglutide, but in its own trial (OASIS 4), the 25mg Wegovy tablet produced average losses of around 13.6 to 14%. An indirect comparison by Novo Nordisk suggested oral semaglutide might edge ahead, but this wasn't a head-to-head study, so treat it with caution.
For context, injectable Mounjaro has shown average losses of up to around 20% at the highest doses in its own trials, and injectable Wegovy around 15%. These numbers come from different trial populations and can't be compared directly, but they give a rough sense of where oral tablets currently sit relative to injections. Individual results vary a lot, and diet and activity still matter alongside any medicine.
Switching from Mounjaro or Wegovy#
If you're already on Mounjaro or Wegovy and considering a switch to Foundayo, it needs to be done under clinical guidance rather than worked out yourself. The ATTAIN-MAINTAIN study looked at people moving from the highest tolerated dose of tirzepatide, and separately from injectable Wegovy, onto orforglipron. After 52 weeks, most participants held onto a good proportion of the weight they'd already lost. That's reassuring, but there's no simple dose-for-dose conversion between these medicines, since they're chemically different and dosed differently.
On cost, Totiva currently prices Foundayo tablets from £85.88 for the starting 0.8mg dose up to £138.88 for the 14.5mg and 17.2mg strengths. That sits close to the Wegovy tablet range (£99 to £165) and below the higher Mounjaro injection doses. None of these are currently routinely available on the NHS for weight loss outside specialist pathways, so most people access them privately.
A GPhC-registered online pharmacy like Totiva offers a free clinician-led consultation to work out whether Foundayo, Wegovy or Mounjaro is the right fit for you, with treatment only prescribed after a proper assessment (including a short video call, as required for all GLP-1 prescriptions).
